The fishing
The Colombian Pacific is one of the last true saltwater frontiers, with over 500 miles of untouched coastline and deep canyons just a few miles offshore. At Black Sands Lodge, we specialize in targeting the species that are actively feeding—whether offshore giants like Marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, and mahi, or hard-hitting inshore predators like cubera snapper, roosterfish, and snook. With expert crews, top-quality gear, and stable year-round conditions, we offer serious anglers a world-class experience in one of the most productive and unexplored fisheries on the planet.
FLY FISHING
Fly fishing with Black Sands offers a truly unique experience. Depending on your target species, you might find yourself sight-casting to massive schools of busting Yellowfin tuna, teasing Sailfish, or casting among stunning shoreline structures and rock formations in search of Roosterfish, Tarpon, Snook, or giant Cuberas. The fly fishing here stands out due to its distinctiveness; our peak season is marked by the dramatic sardine migration that floods the bay. This migration transforms fly fishing into a spectacular event for anglers of all skill levels. When the sardines arrive, it’s common to witness large bait balls being relentlessly attacked at the surface by schools of tuna, Sailfish, jacks, and a variety of snappers.
Inshore fishing
Inshore fishing here is consistent year-round, as many prime species are resident throughout all seasons. The coastline is distinctive and dramatic, featuring sharp edges, powerful currents, rocky shores, and numerous river outlets that introduce fresh water and baitfish into the ocean. Stretching for hundreds of miles of untouched waters, this area provides exceptional opportunities for popping and jigging. Slow trolling live bait while cruising and casting often results in some truly spectacular bites. Our main species include roosterfish, cubera snapper, mullet snapper, tarpon, jacks, rock snapper, African pompano, and snook.
Offshore fishing
The Colombian Pacific remains an undiscovered gem for anglers, largely because it lacked international-quality fishing operations until recently. The region's minimal infrastructure and absence of large marinas have preserved its pristine environment and kept fishing pressure remarkably low. This makes it one of the last true frontiers for sportfishing.
The waters here plunge to thousands of feet just a few miles from shore, offering a striking backdrop of mountains and jungle as you fish for pelagic species. Depending on your target, we'll employ a variety of techniques, including popping, jigging, or trolling with lures and dead baits or live bait trolling.
Our main species include Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Blue Marlin, and Black Marlin.
